Barnet Hospital volunteer, Joe Winter, took home the award for Volunteer of the Year at this years OSCARS ceremony. Joe started his journey volunteering over 20 years ago as a driver transporting patients. He now volunteers in the cardiac ward supporting staff and befriending patients, he also helps out at Finchley Memorial Hospital in the chemotherapy unit.
"Since first volunteering in 1995 I soon became inspired by the appreciation expressed by patients and very many hospital staff. I have always been treated as a member of a team and this is very inspiring," said Joe. Cathy McGalpine, Chase Farm volunteer, was named as runner up in this category for her work helping patients navigate the maze that is Chase Farm Hospital and for her tireless fundraising efforts. Around 280 members of staff attended the Oscars ceremony, which was made possible thanks to the Royal Free Charity.
